Navin Shenoy, executive vice president and general manager of Intel’s Data Platform Group, said, “As the industry moves towards 5G, we always see network infrastructure as the biggest opportunity. By 2023, network infrastructure in the entire chip market will The market size will reach $25 billion. In the core, edge and access network, Intel can provide customers with the fastest and most efficient way to design, deliver and deploy 5G solutions. We have the ability to further expand the industry-leading market in a growing market. Chip advantage.”
Unmatched chip portfolio for 5G infrastructure
With the development of 5G, customers are demanding higher performance and flexibility to provide low-latency services. As a result, Intel today announced several innovations, including:
Announced the Intel Atom P5900 Platform, the First Intel Architecture-based 10nm System-on-Chip (SoC) for Wireless Base Stations: With the launch of the Intel Atom P5900, Intel extends the architecture from the core to the access network and all the way to the network the most edge. Intel is expected to become the leading chip provider in the base station market in 2021, a year earlier than earlier forecasts. As a highly integrated 10nm SoC, Intel Atom P5900 is designed based on the high bandwidth and low latency urgently required by 5G networks, and provides functions that can meet the needs of current and future 5G base stations. The product expands Intel’s rich silicon portfolio for the networking environment, while introducing Intel silicon technology to the networking base station market and making it a cornerstone of this market. It is estimated that by 2024, 6 million 5G base stations will be built around the world. Intel is working with industry-leading device manufacturers to make this product part of their superior solutions for the future.
New 2nd Generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors: Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the cornerstone of data platform infrastructure, have sold over 30 million units, leading the transformation of networking. Virtualization of global core network deployments has reached 50% this year and is expected to grow to 80% by 2024, boosted by 5G. The new 2nd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors announced today deliver an average of 36% performance improvement over the previous generation Intel® Xeon® Gold processor products and an average 42% improvement in performance per dollar II. And provide customers with higher value in cloud, network and edge. In addition, Intel Xeon Scalable processors help protect data and platform integrity with hardware-enhanced security features and built-in cryptographic accelerators. At the same time, Intel introduced 18 Upgraded Select Solutions to support these new processors in multiple customer-priority workloads.
Introducing Diamond Mesa, Intel’s first next-generation structured ASIC chip for 5G network acceleration: Diamond Mesa (codename) complements Intel’s unmatched combination of processors and FPGAs to provide the high performance and low latency required for 5G networks . Structured ASICs such as Diamond Mesa provide a least risk-optimized path for workloads that do not require the full programmability of an FPGA, and are twice as efficient as the previous generation, making Intel the only company capable of providing a full-chip platform foundation for network infrastructure provider. Diamond Mesa is now available to early customers.
Introducing the Intel® Ethernet 700 Series Network Adapters, the First 5G Network-Optimized Ethernet NICs with Hardware-Enhanced Precision Time Protocol: The Ethernet 700 Series (codenamed “Edgewater Channel”) is Intel’s first hardware-enhanced Precision Time Protocol ( PTP) 5G-optimized network adapter that provides GPS-based cross-network service synchronization. Existing Ethernet technologies, especially in edge servers, cannot meet the latency requirements of 5G network implementation. However, maintaining precise time synchronization across the network at a very cost-effective price is an efficient path to help address application latency. The Ethernet 700 series adapters improve the timing accuracy required by 5G networks with enhanced capabilities combined with hardware and software. The Edgewater Channel is now in the sample stage and will be in production in the second quarter of 2020.
New software investment
Intel has expanded its industry-leading edge computing software toolkit, integrating new capabilities in the Open Network Edge Services Software (OpenNESS) toolkit to assist customers and partners in accelerating time-to-market for innovative products. OpenNESS now supports standalone 5GNR and Enhanced Platform Awareness (EPA) deployments, giving customers the flexibility to deploy cloud-native edge microservices of their choice. Intel is offering a customized OpenNESS experience kit to accelerate customized 5G deployments. OpenNESS complements Intel’s Open Visual Inference and Neural Network Optimization (OpenVINO™) and Open Visual Cloud (Open Visual Cloud) requirements for edge computing R&D.
Unparalleled Ecological Collaboration
Technological innovation requires in-depth collaboration among industrial innovators, and benefits from the contributions of all parties involved. Intel has a long history of leading technological change and is uniquely positioned to accelerate collaboration between customers and partners. Intel announced strategic cooperation with a number of industry leaders, including Altiostar, Dell, Deutsche Telekom, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), Lenovo, Yunda, Rakuten, VMware and ZTE, to enhance the capabilities of network infrastructure, And accelerate the advancement of edge solutions in the market.
For 51 years, Intel has been at the forefront of technological innovation. By offering a broader portfolio of chips for 5G network infrastructure, Intel will continue to create a world of opportunity for its customers and partners.
