BYD electric bus will land in Kyoto, Japan, and realize full electrification in the future

On March 23, Japan’s Kansai Electric Power Company, Keihan Bus Company and BYD Japan Branch recently reached a cooperation to carry out a test of running electric buses in Kyoto City. The lines in operation are the “Station Loopbus”, a route bus between Kyoto Station, Shichijo Station and Umekoji, and all of these lines will be electrified this year.

Officials said that BYD’s electric buses operating these lines can travel 150-200 kilometers after charging for 1.5 hours.

BYD’s pure electric city buses cover 7-12 meters models, and have been applied to more than 300 cities in more than 50 countries and regions on 6 continents around the world. As of 2017, BYD ranked first in the world in sales of new energy buses. At present, BYD’s pure electric bus products include K6 to K9. Among them, the K8 bus has a wheelbase of 5 meters, a length of 10.5 meters, a 33-seat design, a curb weight of 12.2 tons, and is equipped with two permanent magnet synchronous motors with a maximum torque of 2×430N. m, the maximum power is 2×430kW, and the cruising range is 190/280/350km optional.

Keihan Bus Company also announced that it will gradually replace about 630 existing buses. The equipment cost of the electric bus is about 60% cheaper than that of the gasoline bus.

The adoption of electric buses is in line with the Japanese government’s policy of electrifying all new vehicles, including light vehicles (a domestic model category that refers to small vehicles with a displacement of 660cc or less) by 2035.

At present, foreign media have not announced the specific model of BYD buses that will land in Kyoto, but Keihan Bus Company also said that it will gradually replace about 630 existing buses in the future, because the operating cost of electric vehicles is about 60% cheaper than gasoline buses. . The Japanese government has previously proposed a plan to electrify all new vehicles, including light vehicles, by 2035.

According to the “List of Top 20 New Energy Vehicle Patent Enterprises” launched by the Qichacha Big Data Research Institute, BYD ranks first in the total number of patents with 9,426 valid patents, followed by Changan Automobile and BAIC New Energy. There are 5,243 and 4,005 valid patents respectively. Weilai Automobile (including Weilai Holdings and Shanghai Weilai) has a total of 1,677 valid patents, ranking 6th on the list after the merger of the main bodies, and ranking first among the new car-making forces.

Judging from the three lists of invention patents, utility model patents and design patents, BYD also ranks first in the first two lists, and Changan Automobile ranks first in the list of design patents. Judging from the ranking of new car-making forces, WM Motor beat the Weilai series with 293 invention patents, and the Weilai series won the first place in the two lists of utility model patents and design patents.
